Christmas was a great time during my years with The 3rd Sutton Coldfield Boys' Brigade (1960-67). Late in December we were treated to a (non-uniformed) Friday night fish and chip supper in the church hall (Chester Road Baptist) followed by tea and cream cakes, we had a guest speaker and one I remember in particular was Ron Wylie of Aston Villa fame - a real gent.
Each Boxing Day there was an Officers v Boys football match, James Booth Aluminium had their sports ground in Penns Lane, Sutton Coldfield and they kindly let us use it for that match, there was always a good turn out of parents and friends to watch the match - most years it was freezing cold but we still played.
