The Danish
« on: December 17, 2018, 08:34:33 PM »
Hi

Does anyone have any knowledge of an eatery called The Danish which was located on the ramp just off New Street.

Any information would be grateful.

I think I know the place you mean I went there just once. It was situated on 'The Ramp' now one of the entrances to Grand Central from New St and adjacent to HSBC about where MacDonalds is now situated. It was sort of a help your self Smorgasbord arrangement I may be wrong but I think there was a connection with The Danish Bacon Company. Sorry to be a bit vague but it must be 40 years or more since I went there

Hi Spud

Thank you for your input, I’m trying to find out more and maybe put my hands on a few photos too.

Friends of mine who used to work at Raymond’s Hair Studios used to get sandwiches a d cakes from there.

Is this it, in this 1970's photo, I believe it's a MacDonalds now.

Just chatting to my wife we both think it was called 'The Danish Centre' As  I said we only went once and we were guests of one of my suppliers it was rather expensive good job I was not paying. The place was probably a bit ahead of its time for Brum

Hi Spud

My friends said it was quite upmarket and pretty expensive.

Looking at the photo, it brings back a slight memory to me.

Thanks for you and your wife’s input, Merry Christmas to you both.
