Hi Pauline. I think you will find that Bramble hasn't been on the forum since 2013, but you never know he or she may return.
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Hello Phil, just browsing through the forum when mention of Balsall Heath Road came up. My Dad was born and grew up in Kensington Gardens on Balsall Heath Rd. I believe it wes near where the road crossed the river (Rhea?) Tried to find it last year but there were no markers.

Hi Our Kid

You were quite a way out in your  navigation's, I don't know who gave you those directions but Kensington Gardens were quite a little way back up the hill before the River Rea.

Looking at the first map if you look under the 12 on the right hand side you will see Kensington Gardens, then look at the second map and you will see marked with a star where that location translates to today.

Our kid,

I know this is an old photo, but if you look a the right of the photo where the lady and gentleman are standing the opening there is the entrance to Kensington Gardens.

What a beautiful photo! It really does make the past come alive. We used to visit Dad’s mother in the years after the war and I always remember a somewhat stern woman in a black dress. But she always gave us a silver coin.

I would think that photo dates from before WWII and possibly before WWI as well.

That picture is of the corner of Wenman St & Balsall Heath Rd. In later years the corner shop became a residential property. Some time in the fifties and into the sixties it was home to an Irish family, the Gaffny's. I went out for a short time with their daughter, Bridget, she had an older brother, Patrick, who I believe was a sheet metal worker.
