In 1956-7 I lived in Melrose Avenue off Woodfield road. I went to Clifton Rd school and will always remember a classmate called Teddy Bishop who had the distinction of being the only Aston Villa fan in a class of blue noses. Another friend I had went by the unusual name of Alan Allen.

I was there 1954-56 and the only teacher's class I remember being in was Mr White's class.

Hi Frederick, I had a complicated childhood. When I first went to Clifton Rd school I was living in Leamington Rd. I was then moved to Lozells and went to Lozells school for a couple of months. When I returned to Clifton Rd school I was then living in Melrose Ave off Woodfield Rd. Before I was due to go to Dennis Rd school in 1957 I was taken to live in Hamstead and ended up going to Churchfields Comprehensive in West Bromwich. So, my time in Balsall Heath only covers about 3 years but, I have so many good memories of it.

Hi Banjo,
Small world I also lived in Leamington rd at number 58 three doors up from the little shop. I lived there all my life until I got married at Neely 25. What number did you live at. The time you lived in Leamington rd 1954 I was 11 years old.

I lived at No 69 which was one of the three storey houses on the other side of the road. I lived two doors down from the Hobdays, Larry being one of my friends. My best friend was David Jones who lived at No 55. I remember going round the back of the shop to a house about three/four doors up to watch their tv as we didn't have one. It may have been your house but, I was about 8/9yrs old then and may have had different friends. Memories of playing on the bomb peck between Leamington Rd & Brunswick Rd, going to the Olympia or the Carlton every week, the lady who sold shoes from her front room at No 61 and kids putting on a show in the entry of the shop one time.

Hello again Sandie,

Some of the places you mention have already been discussed and there are photos already on the forum. If you type the names such as Alhambra into the search box you will be taken to the threads that mention it.

Here are the pictures of Leopold Street that I have, some of them might be a little older than what your remember. but as it changed very little over the years it hardly matters.
