Alum Rock buses to City Center in 1955
« on: June 13, 2020, 05:21:13 PM »
Hi, this is my first post here, so slightly unsure :-[

I lived in Alum Rock in the 1950's and cannot remember the number of the bus that went down the Alum Rock Road and in to the city center. Was it the no.8?

By the way, what a great looking forum!

Hello Peter and Roy
The 55 went along alum rock and the 56 along Washwood heath.
At rush times it was slow going from the Gas Works to Alum Rock Road.
The number 14 ran to Shard End.
Hope you enjoy the forum.
Best wishes
Gerald.

Both my exhusband and my sister worked on the 56 and 55
They worked out of the Washwood Heath depot

The 56 from city to Clock Garage, Castle Bromwich

the 55 from city to Shard End via , Alum Rock road

The 14 came from Crossfield Road depot and was from City to Tile Cross via Alum rock Road.

I caught that 56 a few times in the 60's as an electrical apprentice on Castle Bromwich Sewage Disposal . Get off at the Clock garage and such a walk down to the job

Wow, I'm happily impressed with such sharp memories and kind hearts  :)

Looks like 55 it is.

We have lived and worked in various parts of the world but Birmingham still holds vivid memories for me. My grandmother's house, in which I first saw 'Wagon Train' on her black and white TV, was in Ward End Park Road. I'm sure we were breaking some kind of rules, but a friend and I used to catch newts in what I seem to remember as a stream that ran alongside Ward End Park.

Thanks again everyone.
