The Merrymaid was the Highgate Tavern....it was the first pub in Birmingham to be sold by Allied Breweries, Ansells to Courage of London under the Thacher government Pub Swop scheme where breweries could only have 2000 pubs maximum

Went there a couple of years ago, an Asian friend's retirement do. Good beer, excellent curries!

It was called the Mermaid in my day! I do remember it being turned into a Asian restaurant and later a Banqueting Suite, then I think there was a fire there and it was closed to this day!

Hi Des

Thank you for your input however, the Merrymaid is still up and running as a successful pub and Indian restaurant.

It is currently closed due to COVID-19 but, the restaurant is open for takeaway food only.

The owners Raj and Ranjit have invested a lot of time, money and a personal commitment to ensure that the pub is a successful community pub.

Thank you for getting in touch.
