Sandy Lane Almshouses
« on: August 16, 2020, 05:33:17 PM »
I have recently come across some notes made by my late aunt with details she remembered about her family. She mentions that she visited her Grandparents in almshouses in Sandy Lane but I can't find any reference to these. They had previously lived in Cheapside, not too far away from Sandy Lane. Can anyone confirm or otherwise if these properties existed in the 1930s or if there might be somewhere else nearby that she could have confused them with.
She also believed that they had spent several spells in the workhouse, which would be the most likely one given that they were living in Cheapside?

Not sure If this helps but there were Almshouses in Ravenhurst St Camp Hill which is not  that far from Sandy Lane. Also Almshouses could be found in Conybere St Highgate.
