Hi maltablue yes they were wooden wheels but they certainly moved fast
most of my teenage tears was spent in that rink
The picture house I used to spend a lot of time in was the one up from the Valley pub in Yardley Wood I think it was opp May lane not quite sure we were given 6d and we bought sweets out of that  I loved my saturdays in there

I joined a lovely youth club when I was about 17, we used to go camping at Kinver Edge we had some great fun, I also used to go the the casino, black cat. We went to an all night jazz club at the Town hall one time, I nagged my mom till she said "Oh alright then - but don't gell your father" came home about 7.0 am and crept up to bed - so got away with that one, and we had a great time, but joining the youth club in summer lane was the best that is where I met my hubb.

i spent a lot of my youth working my socks off burning the candle both ends to get a few bob for the weekend i stated to go to Manchester staterday mornings with a few mates one of my mates had an old van and we would club together and off we would go

Saturday was spent in Manchester was spent trying to chat up the girls and having a few drinks until Saturday night then we would hit the all night dance clubs live bands and doing what young lads did best  O0 ;D some time we would go off Friday night and get to the clubs and stay till about0530 then go and have a wash and brush up and go to kip in the park in the sun
sunday it was back home dead on our feet have dinner then bed to start the weeks work

in the week we would go to coffee bars and spend our last few bob on coke and egg and chips roy
each day is a blessing and I bless each day when it comes

Unlike Roy I never worked my socks off as a youth, I could never see the sense in working for peanuts to make some rich man richer.

I think I've mentioned before I only worked during the winter months saving what I could after doing more or less the same as Roy but only until the first rays of Spring sunshine hit my face and then I was off until the next winter.

There was always plenty of casual work to be found around the coastal towns of this country and always lots to do on those long summer nights.

My only regrets are getting older.

I didn't spend a full teenage year in brum, and didn't see it at all for the last three, firstly due to over 9 months p.a. away at school, then the army..... life began to get better by the day once I was out of that house, part-time then forever!!! O0

I stayed with a mate and visited between Christmas & NY 59.....over FIFTY years ago.

We went into town, didn't bother with the kids coffee bars, had a couple or 3 drinks, got on the (wrong) train and ended up being woken up by the ticket collector (who in the spirit of Christmas saw it had been a genuine mistake, and let us off) - it was a quick last visit to brum!

Did anyone go to Laura Dixon's? We always missed the last bus home and had to walk.  Went to the Casino each and very lunchtime and the Locarno on weekends.  I never did get TB which my Mum swore I would be getting by "jiving my life away".  Those were the days of the 'Ted's; DA's (had to have one of them) and drainpipes.
