Roy

I think I have said all this before, but I don't think Brummies have an accent. People tend to confuse us with the Black Country. Of course when you have people that are making a fortune out of an affected accent like Prof Carl Chinn what do you expect.

Through my work I met people from all over the country, and when asked where I came from when I replied Birmingham some found it hard to believe. They thought all Brummies spoke like Janice Nichols (oyl give it foive) Wednesbury I think it was she was from and Noddy Holder who I think came from Wolverhampton.

Perhaps because I come from Warwick I can always tell a Brummie by their accent.  I absolutely love it - Brummies don't sound thick and I get really annoyed when people criticise the accent.  I can pick up a Coventry and Warwick/Leamington accent as well.  Wouldn't it be boring if we all sounded the same?!

Too right Sue we would be boreing. I also agree that we are confused with the black country which is much stronger. However Roy i do not think the problem is with brummies talking slow but probably too fast.

With the ammount of immigration Birmingham is "enjoying" I feel the Birmingham accent may become more diluted over time.

Mikey and I both come from Brum as you know but neither of us sound the same, he has a much softer accent than I have..
My daughter hates the thought that when she gets older she will speak like me.
But people I know here say they like to listen to how I talk,so you can,t win.
I have a feeling that I,m really Black Country being born in West Bromwich and
living there till I was 16..the accent was well and truly set then :-o
