Here's the view from the shop. Unfortunately it is blurred in the centre of the photo.
The bus stop sign says:
' Buses load here for City ( Albert Street) Via Warwick Road and Stratford Road. Services Nos. 44A & 44B'

:)Hi. I think the 44a buses used to to thro Acocks Green--it lookes like it could be any one of a number of shopping areas but Acocks Green is my guess

Cheers

Thank you AnnMarie  :)

So that could be St Mary's Church,  Hall Green in the background?

Looks very much like the roundabout at Acocks Green, I have been down "the green" a few times these past few years as my sister now lives there. You need to find someone that lives there now, but my first thought was AG.

Graham.

Thanks Graham.

The green arrow on this old  map shows the shop and direction the photo was taken.
It looks right to me.

I hope to visit the area in the next couple of months and the information gives me a good start on where to look. Some of the shops may still exist if I look above the shop fronts!

So with the help of AnnMarie and Graham it's sorted!
Thank you both!

Have you been to see this shop now. I went to school at the back of the shop!

Hello bostingayeit

Last time I was in Brum I spent the day in the Central Library looking at census records and old newspapers. Unfortunately I didn't have time to see Acock's Green. It's still on my list of 'things to do'
What school did you go to and was it directly behind the shop?

hello

if you look at your map you will see a gap between the shops, there was a greengrocers on the corner i think next to Webbs, although i am talking about the 50s so webbs may not have been there then.

in that gap was the entrance to what was eventually  archbishop ilselys school but there were some huts on part of the site behind were webbs would have been and it was an annexe to Holy Souls, the school i went to. Holy Souls was further up the green.
whats your interest in Webbs if they were there in the coronation year there is a good chance we had our first tv from there!

Hi bostingayeit

My Dad worked at Webbs as a radio engineer just before the second world war.
On his return he worked for Cranes, The Old Square and then Cuttriss or vice versa!
I watched the Coronation parade from Crane's upstairs window in the early fifties and watched the Coronation on a nine inch Bush TV.
