Street in Balsall Heath 1890
« on: October 07, 2008, 08:48:47 PM »
I have just received a birth certificate for one Henry Yarnold, dated October 1890, and the address recorded is a little hard to decipher. It looks like 30 Ruutsford Street, Balsall Heath. The B.H. part is very clear, but even my Mother, another ex-Yarnold who used to live in Jakeman Road, cannot make the street out, and cannot remember a street that even remotely looked or sounded like it. I have tried to locate a street with vaguely similar spelling and sound, but without any luck, I appreciate that anything that might have any similarity, could have vanished through time, would any of you knowledgeable ex Balsall Heathians, have any ideas`? any suggestions ( polite please! ), thanks.

Hi cresser

What about Knutsford St , it ran from Wenman St to Mary St and was quite a steep hill.

Phil47, Thanks for your reply.Yes you are probably correct with Knutsford, although I had actually considered that possibility, it is I think the only real alternative, even though it has now gone, cheers.

Can't you put a scan of that part of the certificate up, perhaps some one on site will be able to decipher it.

It looks like Knutsford St to me, I just can't think of another road that fits. Do you have any further information about the person, such as district. I believe in 1890 Knutsford Street might have in Kings Norton Worcester.

Phil, Yes on the Birth Cert`, it does state; "Sub-District of Kings Norton - County of Worcester", and the more I think about it the more likely it is Knutsford St. Cheers.

John

Your wrong about Knutsford St Its gone they built a school on it called Heath Mount School. The only part of Knutsford St left is the bottom of the hill where it met Mary St and that is now the entrance gates. This photo is taken from Wenman St.
