What item could you not do without?
« on: July 27, 2006, 06:33:44 PM »
Was gonna start this as what could you not do without but decided to add the word "item" to avoid the obvious replies. :D

These days we have the mobile phone, computers and other high tech stuff. Yet think about it. Many of these items are recent and have killed some old pastimes and values. What would you most miss?

Me i think electricity as we would be well stumped without it.

Also do you have an item from yesteryear which you still use and swear by today?

Mine has to be my old singer hand sewing machine which comes in handy for tiny items like dolls clothes which the electric version is far too fast.

Can you really class electricity as an 'item'?

I couldnt do without my computer. Its the item in my household that I use the most.

You can take away my TV, take away my phone, but I couldnt live without my PC

The oldest thing I still use is a hairbrush.
It was bought off the 'tallyman' who would call every Friday evening (pay day) by my late mother.
This was a week before I went to do my National Service in April 1956.
It has broomed these locks for over fifty years and though it is showing signs of bristles, on its edge, being worn and missing plus the varnish on the  wooden  handle worn off I am sure it will see me out.

John,
I did say the brush has bristles and not steel combs.  Where I expect to be going the bristles will not stand the heat.
Another thing I have are two videos (were 6mm film but transferred) of my wedding.
Grief I was young!  Hardly ever watch it for it shows a man I do not recognise in the male role...... :(
