Pudding, thanks for the photo of Mansells shop, when it had moved to the corner of Butlin Street and Nechells Park Road, are you too young to remember when Mansells was on the opposite corner of Holborn Hill and Nechells Park Road, to "The Villa Tavern" ?  and if you had stepped out of the Tavern, down Aston Church Road, you would have almost been on our doorstep, I was at school with Mrs Mansells daughter, and my brother was at school with the son, such happy days  ;)

Some more photos of the area around the bottom end of Nechells Park Rd that you may have seen before or I may have posted before. To be quite honest this thread is getting a little long to go back and check on each time. In fact these photos could even have come off here in the first place. I will have to see if I can make up some sort of an index of photos on the longer threads in the history section of the forum.

Phil, thanks once again for putting on the photo's, Yes I recall Newman the shoeman, corner of Butlin Street, and Long Acre, The shop on the corner of Austin Street, and Nechells Park Road, was Watkins greengrocers, and the shop on the corner of Trevor Street, and Mount Street, was run by my school friends parents, and the photo of Holborn Hill Nechells, brings back memories, as the photographer must have been standing at the top of the yard that my nan and grandad lived down, called Prospect Place, the wall on the right, what we called the brook wall, was actually a stream, that did run under Holborn Hill, and eventually into the river Rae.

Photo Index

Just under the post title alongside the date you will see a Reply No. The numbers you see in this index refer to that number. I hope this index will help to find photos without difficulty and help stop repeated posts of the same photo. I have noted whilst doing this index I have been guilty of this on several occasions. I will try to keep this index updated and hopefully add a similar index to some of the other larger threads.

Phil,

What a wonderful and extensive collection of Birmingham Photographs, it must have taken ages to make the index.

When cataloguing such a selection of items from an expanded thread you may wish to try this method.
If you append the url with the post number you wish to view between the 2050. and before .html of the address the reader will go straight to that entry page.

e.g.: the amendment is shown in bold

http://www.birminghamforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,2050.93.html

http://www.birminghamforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,2050.116.html

I hope this method helps with the other threads you intend to tidy up.

Thanks for the comments, I just want to make it easier for people like myself who post a lot of photos. I find it hard to remember what I have posted and what I haven't. Jeff when I click on each of your links I just get taken back to your post, but thanks for the suggestion.

Phil,

The two examples shown in my last post where meant to show where the URL should be amended. I purposely used Bold for that purpose.
Sorry if that has lead to any confusion. They were not meant to be used as 'live links'

I copy them below again as live links without the bolderising

Examples:

http://www.birminghamforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,2050.93.html

http://www.birminghamforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,2050.116.html

Hope this clearer.  O0

Number 231 Piney St .... is Pitney St .... Mistake easily made. I think what you have done is a very good idea. May I make a suggestion ...?

So as not to take up so much space, put them into columns of two, even three would be better, of equal length .... I suggest editing or abreviating the descriptions of the lengthy ones to make them shorter?

When they are smaller, then make it the first post on every new page, because it will soon be forgotten as the pages move on ...?

It would be a good introduction to the page and a reference point for anyone new to the thread ...?

You must forgive me because I am a bit of a moron when it comes to computers, for me to understand you have to put it in pictures, but I think I have the gist of it now and I'll give it a try on the next thread I do a index for. I'm also making enquiries to see if it can be made sticky so it stays at the head of the thread and I can add to it as more photos are added.
