Pudding what a lovely old photo that is thank you for taking the trouble to post it . As i remember Bloomsbury St from Saltley Rd to the Junction pub (on the corner of Ashted Row and Gt Fransis St) was completely flat so i tend to disagree for once with Phil (i don,t do this often) and say its looking down from the Beehive and the big building in the distance is Bloomsbury Police Station.lets see what other people say. You could be right, it could be the other side of Saltley Rd looking down toward the library, but that building in the distance doesn't look like the library to me. I thought both Bloomsbury St and Great Francis St ran pretty level for a while from the Junction pub and then started to fall toward Saltley Rd in the Rea Valley.

Hello All - I think it's the view from Nechells Green looking towards Gt. Lister St.,the large building in the distance could be the bank that stood on the corner of Bloomsbury St. and Gt. Lister St..The houses on the right hand side of Bloomsbury St. going up to the Junction Pub all had front gardens. :-\

Hi all

I have darken and enlarged part of the original photo of bloomsbury st the best I can (page 107 post #1175) to try and help recognise the large building in the distance

Hello Pudding I have enlarged it too and had another good look there are what i believe a nother couple of clues you will see the metal posts that supported the overhead tram (trolley )electic lines at the bottom of the post there are painted white rings these were put on for the blackout so i believe the photo to be after the war pity i can not identify the vehicle on the road but the people look to be dressed in 50-60s clothing at the top of the photo there are a line of faint black spots these i believe are the wire connections for the tram wires so although not clear the lines are still there. At one time the trams did go all the way up Bloombury St but stopped early 1900 and changed route to go up Gt Lister St so for me it still points to the section between Nechells Green and Gt Lister St with the building being  the Police Station. Dek & Pudding

Well here is the police Station, and I will admit that it is a good possibility if the building is symmetrical with the same gable at each end. Dek the snow looks like it's 1963 to me.

Phil 1963 i was thinking that as well what a winter that was although we never had that much snow it stayed on the ground for 3 months not rising above freezing once. Dek

Phil, dek

So what you are saying is that the photographer would have had his/her back to high park corner or six ways on Nechells green? if the photo was taken in 1963 then surely the tram over head wires would have been removed by then, as for the white rings painted on the lamp post or tram poles could it have been drifted snow?, the vehicle look like it is delivering milk churns it may be a scammell scarab?

They do look like tram power lines don't they? and I don't remember them at all and my youngest memory of Bloomsbury St although the other end would be about 1954 -55 and I don't think they were still there then. The support poles are still in plain view though but they left them there for a long time after the trams stopped running.

I do think Dek has got the right location but perhaps I have got the date wrong, what about 1947 the year I was born another bad winter.

Hi all  -  I think the date of the photo is between 1952/4 and the building is the first block of flats under construction.I remember them being built but not the exact date.
