Hi Pud I think the bus would be just out of shot to the left coming from town on Gt Lister St. I wonder if the photos were taken at the same time and by the same person as I wouldn,t think there would have been that many photographers around at that time.Lyn has just posted a great photo of the Turks Head early 60s on another forum that you use have a look its the best one i,ve ever seen. Hi all this is an amazing thread, I haven't read all of the entries yet but I will.

My maternal grandparents lived at number 13 St Clements road in the early 1960's and possibly earlier and one of my maternal Great Grandmother's had a small sweet shop nearby.  All I can remember of her is her very long grey hair and a small dark shop.  Does anyone remember the shop, I think her name would have been Moores but it could have been Granger.

Hi Shirley

Welcome to our forum, I'm glad you are enjoying the thread. I think you will find that most little shops back then were dark little places and you would be surprised how many were owned by little grey haired old ladies.

Was the shop in St Clements Rd ? Can you tell us when you great grandmother had the shop? With a little more information I may be able to look the shop up in Kelly's Trade Directory.

Hi Shirley, Welcome.
There was a sweetshop in St Clements Rd. As you come from Nechells Pk Rd, there is a bend to the right, the shop was right there, on the right. It  was run by a little old lady, and I actually bought sweets from there several times. this would be1958/9.

Checked on Google streetview, the old buildings are long gone, there's a blue van parked in front of where I recall it was.  B7 5AF

Hi Shirley, this is the only photo I can find on the net of st Clements rd.

I can remember the gents toilet on the corner Nechells park rd and st Clements rd
if you look closely at the pic you can see a front of the shop Steve is referring to.

Nice one Phil, You can't actually see the shop in the photo, it's immediately as you turn the corner.

Apologies Chaps :-[ :-[

I used to go to Clarkes Cables for cables for my pushbike, and later for my motorbikes. You took your broken cable along with the nipple, and the chap there would knock one up in a few minutes. Also cheaper then the bike shops.
