Hi Werlygig  -  That shop was owned by the [censored],the photographer was standing with his back to Polly Wards used clothes shop, corner of Longacre and Charles Arthur St. Next to the school, lying back from the road, were two cottages that,I believe, were bombed out during the war, which I used to play in when a youngster.Had many a terrible time in them.My older brothers used to tie me up and lock me in a room whilst they played football in the school yard. :(

Hello, Thank you very much for that information, the house next to the school my nan and grandad lived, there name was Charles & Kezia Wood, my mother went to the school next door, my brother and I remember a sweet shop I think was down the road a little way opposite, the name you say of that shop rings a bell, my brother and I are trying to find where our nan would be (Kezia) we think she died in childbirth in 1926 we think, our mom (Kezia also) was only 5 at the time, grandad died in 1957. If you have any pictures I would be very grateful or more information that would be great, thanks again.

Hi Werlygig  -  The name of the sweet shop was Eadesy's,there was another by the same name just round the corner in Rocky Lane.Next door to [censored],in Charles Arthur St. was the Farr family. :)

Hi Werlygig, Welcome to the forum. I hope tou don't mind me looking up your Grandma, but I think you may be right regarding the year your Grandma passed. There is a person by that name, and year recorded on Freebmd.org.uk.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Hi Werlygig  -  Sorry I do not have any photograph's of Charles Arthur St. I rely on Phil. who seems to have everything to hand.I visit the Nechells Community Centre once a month and search through their archives for photo's.Have found some of my two younger sisters,my brother - in law and lots of school friends, but unfortunately I do not know what I looked like pre - teens.Still it gets me out of the house and is a labour of love.Best of luck with your search.
