Tracey is obviously having a problem, uploading her photos so I will do it for her. Like myself because of her parents background she thinks this scene might be somewhere in Nechells ans it looks very much to me if the coach is parked outside a pub, Could you make any replies to Tracey please.

Hi there. The pub in Freeman Road, was the Stork. I played piano there in 1963/64. Hope this helps. Jacko.

Hi Jacko,

I don't think it's the Stork, it doesn't fit with the image from Tracey, I remember the Stork I think it was where I had my first pint from a pub stood outside mt mate looked older than me so he went in and got them. I've attached a photo of the stork.

It might not be a pub, the kids could have been going off to a panto or something like that or an outing paid organised by the factory where the women worked and it could be outside the factory.

Hi Phil.  Great pic of the Stork Pub. That brought back memories for me. I was 16 when I first played there. Naughty!! Did you come from Nechells, as I may have some info regarding people who lived there.  Cheers for the pic. Jacko. BTW, I do have a couple of Kelly's Directories for Birmingham, but I need to locate them at my Storage Unit.  I think one is early 1950's, and the other early 20th Century.  As soon as I can find them, as this may be able to help people check for their relatives.I will contact you soon. Regards.

Hi Jacko

It all depends what you mean by "Did you come from Nechells," as I wasn't born whilst my family lived there. We moved there when when I was about five or six to Francis Street around 1954 and we lived there until the street was demolished in about 1963 when we moved to Inkerman Street. I didn't spend all my time in Nechells because I went to Dennis Road Secondary School in Balsall Heath so I stopped with mt grandparents from 11 to 15 only returning home weekends. Then from when I was 15 I spent most summers wandering around the country.

As for trade directory's I have CD copies of in excess of 70 of them so the forum is well covered in that department, but thanks for the offer of sorting yours out.

Hi Phil.  I am getting confused with yourself and Gibson. Sorry about that. I do have Kelly's for other parts of the Country, located in my Unit, so I may be able to help out for someone. I lived in Inkerman Street in the late 1960's next to the pub, which I think was the Britannia. an left shortly after. We previously lives at 5 back of 94 Saltley Road, Nechells. My Father came from Railway Terrace, as did my relations, until the clearance commenced. Contact you again soon. Regards from Jacko.

Jacko My family lived in Inkerman Street from 1963 until it was demolished, They lived just down from the Brit at 1 back of 144 or if you want the posh name 1 Rueben Place. As I said I wasn't there all that much at all as I was a bit of a wanderer, but I did occasionally use the Brit and the Railway Club, but my locals when I was in the area were the Adelaide on the corner of Esrkine Street and the Ashted Hamlet over the road.

Paddy Carton wrote about Joe Smith and his daughter Brenda. Well I am Brenda who was Joe Smiths Daughter. I have not got a computer, but my friend Jacko does. Any messages will be passed on to me, via Jacko. Hello to everyone from this area.  I have photo somewhere that shows Mr Lunt, standing at the rear of 115 Aston Church Road, with me - Brenda on Bonnie Granvilles bicycle, with my dads, Joe Smiths Caravan or Vardo, to the rear of the picture. As soon as I find the picture, we should be able to post it on here.

Hi Brenda, my wife's elder sister told me there were a lot of the Smiths family there before the WW2. She didn't recall why they all moved away.
