Didn't the bus go over the bridge and turn left at Lichfiied Rd go along the road a bit and turn back at The King Edward and then turn back into Cuckoo Rd at the traffic lights?

No Phil I don,t think that was the case I,m sure it turned round but then again I may be wrong as it appears the Bundy clock was on the other side of the Road and not where I thought. I would have only been 13-14 at the time. Dek

form what I have seen on a video about trams and trolley buses regarding nechells, the trams and the trolley bus did indeed did a uturn on the junction of cuckoo road and long acre as for the motorbus of the early time I am not sure. as for my own experience I remember the bus turning left into long acre then first left into crompton road to the t junction of the end then turn right and back up nechells park road this was in the 1960's/70,s

The bundy clock is behind the bus in your photo Phil.
The bus turned round at the bottom of Long Acre.

Hello All  -  At the time you are discussing it was the duty of the driver to clock out at the begining of his departure and to clock off at the end off his trip. This enabled the Chequers/Inspectors to keep a regulated service. The 43 bus did turn around at the junction of Longacre/Cuckoo Bridge for the return journey.

Thanks for clearing that up. perhaps someone could tell me what bus I would have been on turning left off Lichfield Rd and over Cuckoo Bridge? Because I'm sure I can remember making that journey but I can't recall where I was coming from.

Phil, was it the number 66 as this is now the service that runs through nechells

I haven't a clue. I don't know what I was even doing coming from that direction. Unless it was when I was working on Castle Vale when it was being built. I would have only been about 16 in roughly 1963.

Hi all.

The 43 bus would travel down Nechells Park Road and turn left at the "Newfound"(The nickname for the Nechells Park Tavern), about 200 yards up from there was the clock facing Argyle St. The 43 would then turn left into Long Acre and head into town where the terminus was in Bull St, outside Lewis's. I believe it later became the 66 Route that travels not only to Erdington but also from the Dudley Rd area the other way.

This photo of a No 7 trolley bus says that it is standing at the Terminus in Nechells, it looks like the other side of Cuckoo Rd to me, but there is no Bundy clock in view and I have a few other photos of the same location and it can't be seen in any of them.

Phil
There is a Bundy clock in that shot Phil. If you look thru the bus window above the panel carrying the Brum coat of arms and expand the page you can definitely see it. It's either 12:50 or 10:05 or near that.
