If you have a look on the Old Pubs of Birmingham thread you will see that we listed some of the pubs that just us few members on here could remember and are no longer with us. I think we listed in excess of 300 and I am sure there are many more than that.

I also hate to see any of our traditions being lost, even some of the ones that I don't personally like. I also have no nostalgia for the misery and poverty of days I spent living in the slums of Birmingham, again like yourself I do miss the sense of community and the "we are all in this together attitude" something David Cameron will never understand no matter how many times he says it.

Phil,

I totally agree. Please, Please do not start me on the politics of it all!!!! I will suggest but one opinion.....what the hell happened to the "Party of the Working Class"!!!! I'll tell you....There is not one of them since Denis Skinner who was ever "Working Class"! Shysters, the bleedin' lot of the, so called, intellectuals who purport to represent us!!! Oh, but "Sweet Jesus" they know how to fill in expenses claims. Like I said,.....SHYSTERS!!!!

I will say only this much because this is the wrong thread and we are straying off topic. There has been no party that represents the working class since the advent of TB and Nu Labour.

Steve, the only clock that I dealt with was the one in my place of work and it was always very fast of a morning going in, slow all day, and seem to stop when coming out  ;D

can any of you Lady's and gentlemen remember the stampling and alliance social club that was in the old St Clements sister church or chapel on cuckoo rd, as I have had a good few good Saturday nights in there

Hi all,

Here are a couple of photos I took in 1988; St Josephs Roman Catholic church and a view of Long Acre with Elliot St on the left near foreground.

Whit, I see Verity's Factory sticking up in the background. Great shots of the Church and Long Acre.
Black & Deckers was on the corner of Crompton Road in which contained the rear of the school, with the school annexe on the other side of Crompton Rd.

When I think of Long Acre I think of the many hours I spent in queues at Bristol St Motors Commercial parts counter waiting for lorry parts. You could spent half a day there easily.

We only had the one lorry that we needed to use Bristol St Motors for I think it was a Ford D1000 series. We got rid of the lorry in the end because we couldn't afford the time spent at Long Acre.

Hi all,

I know these photos were taken in 1988, However, they do contain buildings that are no longer there, but were there in those times. They are also original as I took them.

Phil, I know the format is 40s, 50s & 60s, therefore let me know should you want me to stop posting these.

Elliot St School( I had written on the back of the photo "formerly". Therefore, it had closed as a school by then, I cannot remember what it was being used as.
