Hi Dek,and all

I was wondering if this photo was of the same area? as I have to be honest I don't know around there to well as most of the old buildings and roads had gone by the time I was able to get around on my bike in 1967/68

Hi Pudding

Though it's a lot darker and nearer and a slightly different angle I'm almost sure it is the Junction Pub. Mainly because I can't see anywhere else it could be on Bloomsbury St. The only thing that worries me is the steeple/tower in the background it looks a bit big to be Loxton St School to me and I can't think of what else it could be.

Hello again pudding,

I've been taking another look at your photo, as I said I had doubts. I've took your photo and cleaned it up a bit, and in comparison to a couple others I have you will see that there is a marked difference. The building in you photo is only two storey whilst the junction was three.

As I said I can't think of anywhere else on Bloomsbury St it would fit, so unless anybody else has an idea I'm at a loss.

Pudding,

All the B,ham Co-op shops had Branch numbers, the one on the 'Capstand', Gt Francis St. was Branch No. 1. The warehouses that supplied were in Adderley Rd, Saltley during the 50's and 60's and moved to Garretts Green late 60's early 70's. There was also a further warehouse(Dry Goods) that was in Freeth St., Ladywood.

Tony
Blane,Dek,and Phil

Thank you for the photos and the info. I always though the co op started up on the corner of gt Francis st and Newdegate st

Tony thank for the more detailed info of the co op cheers mate

Phil I was having a closer look at the photo's you posted it seems to me it is not the same pub, however I  have had a look at some of the past post on this thread and was wondering if the pub in question is the Turk's head? on page 68 post #738

I think that might fit, and that would be the library in the background, the trouble is we are so used to the way the roads are now that it is hard to visualise what they used to be like. The only thing is that still worries me is the road to the right of the pub would have to be Saltley Rd and it doesn't seem to slope away enough at that point.

Phil,
I maybe wrong but I think there may have been a church on Saltley Road could the tower in the back ground be the spire of it? The road on the left of The Junction pub which bends to the left in the  photo. the other photo (assuming The Turks Head Pub) shows road on the left hand side that bends to the right, maybe an old street map will solve our query

Pudding here is a map of the whole of Bloomsbury St (more or less) and another photo of the Turks Head, Yes there was a church on Saltley Road but I've no idea how big it was.
