Phil
thanks for the cracking photo of The Brewrey tavern, your reward is a face on shot of The Albion (know as the empty) I wonder if there are any more pubs in our old district with nick names that anyone can think of?

I have been away for awhile and was interested to read the debate re. the The Turks Head and The Junction. A crowd of used to pop in the Turks Head on a Saturday night ,[circ 1960-61]  mind you ,you could only get 20-30 people in there. A chap used to sit on top of the piano playing a Banjo, the sweat used pour of him,but great night was had by all. I believe he used play on other nights at the Mitre. The Junction used to my regular haunt [played darts for them]before moving to the Adelaide because the beer was better.

Pudding I wonder if it was know as " The Empty " because it was right opposite the police station no late drinkers or after hours in there. Dek

Hi Pudding

I think the houses to the left are maisonettes and the road is on a hill, if the road was a bit wider and if I could see any bus stops I would say Ash Rd Saltley just past the churchyard.

Or even Kingston Rd Small Heath.

I suppose it would depend if you had any connections with those areas.

Phil, Pudding.  My family lived in the maisonettes next to St Saviours Church, in Ash Road, Saltley, the maisonettes went around in a grove, then houses followed with small gardens at the front, plus the road was steeper than on the photo's, if it was Ash Road, in the second photo, you should be able to see the Morris Commercial Factory, on the right in the distance, which was on the corner of Arden Road, and Bordsley Green Road, and as Phil pointed out, there are no bus stops in the photo's, so I cant see it being Ash Road.

As I said I had my doubts no bus stops in view and the road not wide enough. Plus I think at that time the chimney from the mill would still be in evidence. The only other places I can think of that had maisonettes in Nechells would be Vauxhall Grove / Northumberland St and Windsor St / Barrack St  and I'm pretty sure its not them. So it must be from up the posh end of Nechells.

Not Ash Rd, you'd be looking uphill not down.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
