Phil, there were certainly maisonettes on the left, as you looked down Ash Road, and they also went around into a grove, then followed houses, with small gardens at the front.  but looking down Ash Road on the right were houses, then maisonettes, then St Saviors Church, no I dont think it is iAsh Road.

Phil, I was referring to the shot with the maisonettes on the left looking downhill, just past the graveyard. You would be looking uphill if it were Ash road in either shot.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I don't think I am explaining myself very well, what I am trying to say is that I thought I remember the maisonettes being on the left where these new build houses are and I mistakenly thought the one photo was taken just a little further down the road.

Hi Phil,gibson,Steve

I know it is definitely not  saltley, because the person I was coping for came from Duddeston and as for the flats and maisonettes in the older Nechells, the only ones I can recall was or still is? on Nechells park road between Stanley rd and Eliot st going down the hill on the right hand side the others was on the ashted estate which I did not know very well

Hi Phil & all

I have to thank you again Phil, for helping me out regarding the street name of the photo I have posted on page 141 post 1547 for the name I had forgot, I think it is Phil's suggestion of Barrack street or Windsor street.  I have been researching the net with help of google and the only similar street view in my opinion is on another forum which I have copied and posted here it seems to be Windsor street I await your opinion please

Yes Pudding the first photo is the Vauxhall Rd end of Windsor St the Barrack houses on the right Forster St on the left with Windsor St school just out of the picture. For us the Barrack houses (The Ashcroft Estate)were quite posh they had a way in Barrack St and a way out in Windsor St we used to use them as a short cut the the people that lived there were always on the look out for scruffy urchins like us so we had to run the gauntlet of "clear off down yer own end" as we ran through never stopped us though we were cheeky little monkeys.

The other photo is quite dark I need to look longer to place the location. Dek

Yes I would agree with that, you can even see the lampost on the corner and the higher chimney stack on the corner of what must be Forster St.

Hi Pudding,

This is probably as close as you could get in reproducing the photo today, without actually going to Windsor St. Did you find out why you would have a photo of Windsor St. Do you have a family connection?
