Dek

I would have thought you might have seen it before on the other site.

blane,

It only shows the bottom of Francis St before it changed to Little Francis St on the other side of Lupin Street. I'm still looking for something that shows my end of Francis St.

If I am honest I will say no, the trouble is it is so long ago now it's almost 49 years since we moved out of Francis St and about 42 years since I moved out of Nechells altogether. The only name I can remember from my Francis St days is Gerald Trottman and he lived in Heneage St until they pulled that down and he moved to Thomas St in Aston and we lost contact after a while. Where did Ray Parsons & Bob Brown live and how old would they be now.

Then I should know them, because although they are a couple of years older than me they lived in the same part of the street as me. I lived between Willis St and Henry St.

Unless of course you mean the part between Henry St and Windsor St

A couple of photos of a young lady who has hung around on a street corner in Nechells for about 50 years now. I don't think anybody pays the slightest bit of attention to her, the last time I saw her she was nearly completely enclosed by bushes.

Dek you can see the Community Centre in the background of the later photo.

Gee Gee,

I wouldn't have known them in Cato St North, but Ashted Row could be a possibility. Whereabouts did they live on Ashted Row?

I know very little of Nechells,Vauxhall. But seem to remember a cinema close by On Ashted row.
My only experience of that area is the Co-op milk dairy.when I used to help our local milk lady.

The Ashted Cinema was where I went to the Saturday afternoon 3 penny crush. It's no wonder I'm slightly deaf (well only when the wife is talking).

The first photo shows the Ashted when it first opened and the second as it was when I knew it. In the second you can just see the entrance we used on a Saturday afternoon behind the lamp post, as we were not allowed to use the front entrance. There used to be an ice cream seller on a bike outside the cinema selling ice cream to the queue of kids.
