A couple of photos of a young lady who has hung around on a street corner in Nechells for about 50 years now.

Phil, quite a nice sculpture. Any clue as to the name of the artist or the name of the sculpture?

Phil, Youth, well, that makes sense as I think you said it was near a community center.

Hiya Vauxonion,
I remember the horse drawn milk floats as though it was yesterday.I used to work for a milk lady called Amy.She used to live in Clifton road. What a marvellous lady, she was as strong and hardy as any man.She would lead the horse around South road,Montegomery street,Dolobran Road,Dearman Road,Tereasa road,Sampson road, etc, etc In all weathers, hail ,rain, sleet or snow. Amy was there, she enjoyed her tipple, smoked like a trooper. But what a lady. O0

I think it had little to do with the community centre and more to do with the rebirth of Nechells as the whole area was swept away and everything was supposed to be new youthful and vibrant.

Phil,
Thank you for the photo of the Ashted Cinema. The house was on the opposite side of the road 50-100 yards down, going towards Nechells. O0

Hi Dek. - My first job was as a milkman for the Co-op and I worked on the horses. My horse was named Redskin,a piebald, and I remember decorating him up for Mayday, and doing the round with him covered in rossettes and trimmings.I think the roundswomen was named Ivy,only one who worked there in 1959 when I started.

So they lived in one of those huge Georgian houses then, did they have a big family?

Phil,
I can,t recall a large Georgian house,if my memory serves me right the front of the house came as far forward as the pavement to the road way.

Blane/Vauxonion,
The period i,am talking about his approx,1953-55.I seem to remember that during that period Amy must have had three diffirent horses. If I told you that one was called Trigger ,it may sound a little corny.

This is the block of houses that ran up from junction of Vauxhall Rd to Willis St that the Ashted Cinema was on the corner of.
