Hey Pudding

I seem to remember that wall being a lot higher than that, or was I that much smaller then?

Hi Phil.  -  I can remember sitting on that wall trying to catch the Glasgow Express at 0745hrs after my paper round. There were houses there then and the gardens ran down to the wall, but stopped short for a path that ran the back of the houses.Back there again at 1230hrs. to catch the Pines Express, and again at 1730hrs to catch the returning Glasgow Express.Thank god television was invented,I could stop in the house for a warm.

The Nelson. Now that brings back memories.I was born in the road before in the back to backs. Proctor Street. The lady who served in the cooked meat shop was Mrs. Holt I know that she was the mother of my first girlfriend, you are right ,the bike shop was next door. Then came Gordon Lowes the butchers, followed by the home made meat shop, sold tripe, pigs feet chicklings etc. all cooking away merrily.I get a bit vauge here so Iwould welcome verification, perhaps Phil could put me right. George Masons the grocers was next, then the home made sweet shop.Blane will remember the next Bob Walters.I was measured for my first suit there in 1956 ,a teddy boy siut the full works 14inch bottoms finger length coat all in grey with velvet collar and cuffs.cost me £16 . Yes Blane he was a cracking tailor.furher down was Haynes the greengrocers  I recall a shop on the oppisite side of the road cornener of Willis Street but not the name tnen some houses Followed by the Royal Oak pub more houses a book shop and another greengrocers corner of Henry Street.

I'm not sure if I have uploaded these photos before, but they are all Great Lister St. I really must get round to updating the photo list for this thread.

Hi Pudding

it's the Welcome inn on the corner of Adams St & Great Lister St, I'll be posting a earlier photo of it on my Nechells pubs series soon. The Green Man was on the corner of Dartmouth St & Richard St it was one of the pubs I used in my early teens and I would love a photo of it if anybody has one.

You must have good eyesight if you can see the pub on the forth photo because it was just up from Willis St by Lister Square and was the Royal Oak.
