Dek the pub you are thinking of named The Shepherd And Shepherdess is on the street plan/map I think it's on the corner of Heneage street & Henry street? not sure as I can not read the names too well on the map also I have notice a pub called the Grapes? on the corner of Willis street? there are some pubs or beer houses marked with just numbers and some are marked PH. never the less Dek thank you again for posting them for us

Pudding

I put a photo of the Grapes at the corner of Willis St and Heneage St up at post #1949.

If you look at the map Dek has put up you will note that some of the off sales are also blacked out as well.

I think when this map was discussed elsewhere it was thought to be a dray-mans delivery map, the only problem being I don't think all the pubs were the same brewery.

Dek was any other suggestion ever put up?

Hi Phil, Thank you for posting more pictures that you have in your collection of the pubs in and around Nechells. I notice that you may have more than I have on the list I posted, as I said the list was made up of people's memory's and is not accuracy in statement's.Phil I hope you don't mined I have a photo of the Villa Tavern on the corner of Nechells park road and Holborn Hill that I had taken in 1992 you can add to your collection if you wish

You could make a list and I could make a list and they would both differ. There are other pubs that some might say should be on the list, but others may say no because they were in Vauxhall, Duddeston or Gosta Green. I have just posted those that I have that I considered came within or close to the boundaries of Nechells.

here is another photo that I had taken just after we left Nechells in 1971
it is of the Woodman on the corner of cattells grove and Johnson street. I did not know it was used by the Buffs in the room upstairs as a lodge, until I was asked to do a photo assignment for someones twenty first birthday party.I wonder how many lodge's there were in Nechells?

Hi,Dek & all, this is another tricky one to look into as the Shepherd and Shepherdess is on the corner of the said streets there is according to your street plan of the area that you posted a link to it shows an outdoor on the opposite side to the pub by the number 81 I think it reads. also there is an outdoor further up Heneage street also on the opposite side. I think it would be about where the lady's standing in the photo that you have posted? as I can not be sure which way the photographer is looking? I don't know if Mike or Phil can come up with anything?

pudding as you walked down Henry St from Ashted Row to great Lister St the Shepherd ans Shepherdess would be on your left as you crossed Heneage St, on the opposite corner was C T Willitts corkscrew makers. Diagonally across from the pub was the outdoor (see photo).

By the time I moved to Nechells in 53/54 all the side of the block that Willitts stood in had been cleared for the new maisonettes and the side of Heneage st where the pub was was empty awaiting demolition. If I remember correctly they built a tower block there.
