Phil thanks for the info to Dek's query about the Shepherd and Shepherdess on the corner,so it is the pub we are looking at (if only the door and window) and the photographer is facing Dartmouth street so to speak.

I'll post this picture of what was supposed to be a pub at one time called the Prince of Wales (that makes four of them in Nechells area?) again is on a corner of Lord street, as you can see it was taken over by the Salvation Army,I looked in a 1967 Kelly's it is not listed. the photo was taken in 1964. can you name the street that runs across Lord street?

the second photo is looking the opposite direction, the building in the background looks newish to me?

Phil
I was mystified at first, but thibnk i have solved it. Another version of the photo describes it as nos 3-15 lord st. this would put it at the junction with dartmouth st on the north side. If you look at the c 1951  and c 1970 maps, then you see that between the two maps a bridge has been constructed (presumably by Delta mwtals) over Love lane, which fits the second picture

As an addition, in the 1966-7 Kellys, 139 Darmouth st, next to Lord St, is the Salvation army goodwill centre. Can't find any reference to a pub, but 139 from at least 1903 till closure of church  was St Laurence vicarage. Maybe he had a sideline  !

Hi Phil here's a little gem that's popped up on the net, it's  The Highland Laddie pub that was on the corner of great Lister street and little Francis street, taken about 1918/19 which was demolished to make way for the Bank that you and I know of.

Pudding that is a little gem, that I have never seen before. I remember the bank though but I never went inside it as I never had no cause to as I never had any money to spend let alone bank in those days.

You might as well have the last few pubs that I have in the Nechells series now.

62. Village Tavern
63. Vine Inn
64. Welcome Inn
65. White Hart Cromwell St

Phil although the Winning Post was built almost on the original site of the old Train it started of as the Rocket I remember it well as I had a part time job at Harris Coal which was on the opposite corner. Dek

Hi Phil & all, Phil thank you for posting the remainding photos of the pubs that you have in your collection of Nechells.

there is one of the pubs that I have a few photos of that was on the corner of Nechells Park rd and Cheatham st as you know it was once called The White Swan,I have been told some time back that it stopped trading either just before the second world war or just after.  I am not sure?

1.... The White Swan from an old postcard it is on the righthand side of the picture possably taken about 1905/10

2.... The same building taken 1960's from outside Wally Swain's garage
