That is absolutely brilliant, I've no need to tell you that I have taken a copy and I'll play about with it for ages trying to clear it up a bit. Can you tell me where you got it, by PM if you like.

Gents,

As an old gas man myself, these gas holders are definitely not Nechells. The 2 holders at Nechells were built in 1898 and 1896 respectively. Unfortunately, I cannot say where they were located!

I still think that it is Nechells Park Rd running diagonally across the bottom left of the photo.

Attached is an aerial shot of Nechells Gas Works - probably taken in the Nineties? - You can see the Paper Works on the right of the photo - You will see that Nechells gas holders are much closer together than those pictured in Steve's photo

Steve/Phil,

Think I have sorted this photo now! Steve's original photo shows the construction of a gas holder at Swan Village gas works, which was in West Bromwich. This gas holder was built between 1951 and 1953.
The second attached photo shows an aerial shot of the works in the early nineties. I would suggest Steve's photo was taken from the taller of the 3 gas holders (one in foreground) which was built in 1950.

Hi snowglowjoe, I agree with you as it is taken in west brom gasworks for you can makeout the railway bridge in the background of the pictureand the small building next to the gas holder in both photos

That looks a reasonable enough assumption to me, as I think Aston Church Rd (Sorry I misnamed it Nechells Park Rd) was the only slight possibility in Birmingham.

I don't think these photos of Ashted Row have been put up before. I'm pretty sure photos 1 is from Windsor St down to Henry St and photo 2 is from Henry St down to Willis St on the other side of the road.

It's photo no 3 that has got me scratching my head, as the only houses I remember having front gardens on Ashted Row were between Henry St & Willis St and its not a photo of that section of the road. Mind you by the time I moved to Nechells 1953 some of Ashted Row had been demolished.

Dek

That could be a possibility as I can't seem to put it on Ashted row as it is tagged. Not from what I remember anyway.
