It looks as if you are both right, look at this plan from 1974. The three towerblocks seem to be along what would have earlier been Scholefield St, but the entrance's are in Cromwell St. As I said all after my time in Nechells.

The problem with posting maps and plans here, is due to size restrictions that they turn out not very legible. I have posted this map of Vauxhall Rd in two halves in the hope that it may help.

Dek,Phil at least we should be able to know or work out which side of the road it was on as it is an odd number.

We are up again. i was working out an answer last night, came to put it on and it wouldn't work. Only then realised the site had gone down while I was on it. The map below shows no 97 (I'm fairly sure , if not then it is corner sbuilding) in red. there is a problem though. From at least 1900 till 1910 it was a greengrocers, and this doesn't look like that. For 1912, 1913, 1915 it is not listed, neither are a number of other shops back down towards the city, so it looks like there might have been a demolition. No 99 , however is a  Samuel berry , beer retailer . This we normally think of as a beerhouse or an off licence. Well, it could be a poah  off licence that doesn't concentrate on beer, and to the left of the shop in th epicture could be a corner, it is not clear. Did wonder if the picture was earlier, but shortly before 1900 the street was renumbered, and no 97 then seems to have been a [private residence, with just a name and no occupation

Are you taking the east corner of Union Terrace as No 79, if so then surely No 97 would be the corner building as you thought perhaps it might. The problem is the photo doesn't look like a corner building.

Dek where did you get the number 97 from because I don't think the photo I posted in the first place had a number.

79 certainly seems to be on the corner of union terrace, as 77 is on the other side of the junction. however, it doesn't look much like a corner shop (though you could concieve of it , as it is a bit uncertain), and the corner with northumberland st seems to be 113, which woukld probably make 97 the one i marked. that's why i suggsted that building, though did say it could be corner building. i was trying to balance possibilities

Hi Guys I have received the information from Eric Hill and it,s from the Heartlands LHS collection  the information is on the bottom of the photo.

The location appears to be in the middle of the new build that replaced that row of buildings the Co-op Dairy.Dek

I would definitely think it was among the buildings that was demolished to make way for the Co - op dairy. Do you think you could ask Eric Hill where he gets his information from and if he has anything further, a name for the owner of the shop would be good.

Phil,I agree with you if the shop in question was on the side of the road where the co op dairy was as I did say so in a past post on page 167 reply 1835.

as we have brought up the co op, we know that number 1 branch was on Gt Francis st and the one on Nechells park rd was number 3 branch, so I found out from this photo taken in 1905. I was wondering if you knowledge of where about was the number 2 branch was?
