Hey lads we are harking back to the days when families with 10 to 15 siblings were not unusual or out of the ordinary even Queen Victoria had 9 children. So large families were the norm, and coming across long lost family is not unusual.

True Phil, They say that within 5 generations you can find a relationship with everyone in the world.
I am directly related to half the people in the area I was brought up in.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

 Hi Jakaan
Re your post 2364. You are quite correct in thinking that JDS’s wife is your first cousin. I have been in touch with JDS and his wife and have emailed them not only photographs of your grandmother but also photographs of you as a little boy with your father, my Uncle Harry. We played together in the garden of the baby clothes shop you have mentioned and prior to that you lived at a shoe repair shop on Nechells Park Road which your father owned.
So, you have now made contact with two first cousins!

Hello Jakaan,
your post 2364.
You do have a cousin named Gill who would love to make contact with a fellow Bennett.
I have attached a photo of my fathers shop in Aston in the offchance that someone remembers it

JDS

It's entirely up to you, but it's not a good idea to post your email address and phone number on the open forum. I know that neither of you are able to send or receive PM's at the moment so it makes things difficulty for you.

As soon as you are sure that Jakaan has received your message, you might like to remove them or if you have difficulty in doing that just ask and either Roy or myself will do it for you.

Hello Nechelite and JDS

Good to hear from you both. Nechelite, you are quite correct about my Dad's shoe repair shop on Nechells Park Rd on the left hand side going towards the swimming baths just over the railway bridge. I think I was about 7 when we moved to Bloomsbury St.

Not sure how we can swap contact info. Maybe Phil can offer a suggestion.

I am living in Australia now (have been for 28 years) but my sister and brother still live in Brum.

I am due in the UK on business in the next few weeks so lets see what we can do.

Every time I am home I go and see Nan's (and Granddad's) grave in Witton cemetery.

Hi Jakaan

Without either of you resorting to airing private information on the forum, the best I can suggest is that both of you get your post numbers up to the required 25 posts so you can use the messaging system. Perhaps the best way would be to use the games board you can knock 25 posts up on there in as many minutes I would think.

The trouble with this thread now (even with the index) is knowing what photos have been posted. Here a few that I think are new to the thread.
First we have the bottom end of Cato Street near to Saltley Rd, next is a photo of The Old Nelson showing both Rupert St and Great Lister St. Next is a photo of the newly completed flats on Duddeston Manor Rd and last is another photo of Nechells Park Rd

Hi Phil, the first pic of Cato st, is the large gateway in the photo is or was a milk depot?

the fourth photo of Nechells Park rd, seems to me to be at the tee junction of Chatterway st? if I am correct the shop on the corner was a chemist named Hurcomb where I got my photographic paper and chemicals from.
