Hi again Hillary

If Mikejee comes on he might be able to do this better than I can as he is much better with maps than myself. I think your nan was located in 5 Court Lupin Street. That is where the red X has been placed. I'm sorry but I cant help with any further photos than are already on the thread.

I took the liberty of alteringPhil's map. According to the electoral roll back 12 would be court 3, and i would guess that 1 back 12 would be immediately behind no 12, so is the house in red on the modified map

Knowing that you understand these maps better than I, then your explanation is probably closer to the fact than mine. Can you just explain how that can work out to be number 12. Even allowing the first two buildings on the corner that I disallowed it only makes the buiding you indicate as number 10. I took it that the numbers are sequential starting at No 1 from the Henry St end after disallowing the first two buidings which I took as part of the same buidng on Henry St. Numbering this way it makes the building you indicate as number 8.

The numbering is sequential. and agree it doesn't look right, but  I took the position from the electoral rolls for 1920, shown below. This shows that court 3 is immediately after no 12, and to my mind this puts back 12 as court 3. All I can say is that sometimes numbering is a bit haphazard.

I would like to thank you both sincerely for taking the time to find this for me.
My grandfather Thomas Joseph king has no records that I can obtain in the uk I am very sad that I have no background of him this is the only paper work that has been found on him.

Would I be right in thinking that Irish descendants came to work in this area as it was industrial at this time?..
I would like to thank you once again for all the effort you have both made for me.
The pictures you have  put on this forum of Nechelles is amazing.

Love Hilary xxx

Hilary

I would have thought Nechells would have been an ideal place for Irish immigrants to settle in the late 1800's and early 1900's it would certainly have been cheap to rent accommodation as it was one of the biggest slum areas in the City. My family moved to Nechells in the early 50's and that was after the improvements of the early 1900's and the slum conditions were still unbelievable.

Hilary if we can help you with anything else please just ask.

Right you Nechellites take a look at this clip and see if you can tell me where the street is running down to the gasworks 1.20 in from the start of the clip. It's got me stumped.

Windsor St didn't run down that way from Dartmouth St, Richard St did but that had The Green Man on the corner not a shop, I was wondering if it was Proctor St from Great Lister St?
