Hi Phil , it was never a shop
It was just passed Pickfords a wide opening you went
To the kitchen door round the back I . E  ilegal betting
I believe he may have converted the front room
When betting became legal but not certain

Do you remember the rearof Marsdens if you turned left behind the houses
The path went up And came out further up the street
Half way up there was a green shed in the garden
We used to buy ice creams & later in the year toffee apples
I think it was something to do with the Barnard family

Hello Whitty
We have got a bit confused along the line. I wish I was younger than you and your brother.
I was teaching in 1962.
Best wishes
Gerald.

My father (John Dobson) and his brother (Clive Dobson) attended Eliot Street late possibly late 40's to circa 1958, i'm trying to obtain some class photos of them but haven't had any success yet. I was hoping some one on this forum might be able to help or advise me on where to look.

They lived on Malvern Hill Road with my Nan (Mavis Dobson) and Grandad (Bill Dobson), Nan worked at Loxton Street School in the kitchens and Grandad on the trains. Again would be interested in seeing some photos of Malvern Hill Road in the 50's.

They moved to Erdington in 1958 to the Lyndhurst when it was a brand new estate and lived on Wilmot Drive.

Hi CJD

Welcome to the forum, I'm afraid I've never heard of a source for old school photos, and I'm sure if you come across one there would be plenty of people interested on your findings, I would for one.

Added later
I just noted elsewhere that you were also asking for a photo of Malvern Hill Road from the 50's, I'm adding this rather poor one now.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.

He still thinks he is Johnny Dixon when he plays with his grandchildren! Johnny Dixon was his idol, I've got a good photo of my old man being awarded with a football trophy by JD.
