Yes Whitty you are right there was no viaduct at this point, but there was an embankment with a high retaining wall (see first photo) the houses in the terrace that was last to go were the ones on the map on the right up against the wall. I knew somebody who lived in one of them.

The whole of St Vincent's playground was the result of bomb damage
Apart from the five houses shown
We had a massive bonfire there one year the house in Erskine St
The opposite side of the Adelaide Terrace near Scott St
was the home of the Harpers

A view of Johnson Street looking down toward Trevor Street it looks to be in the early to mid 1960's.

Hi I have just found this thread and have sent it on to my Dad as he used to live in Erskine Street in the 1930/40’s. No 55 I think.

His family name is Bullock and his dad was a Railway Inspector.  Does anyone remember them or have any old photos of where he lived?

Yes the Bullocks lived at the last or the last but one at the bottom of the street
By the Railway sidings and the river Rey George Bullock who is know Steve Bullock
We communicated on this site short time ago I would suggest that you back track
Unless your Dad is Steve Bullock good luck

Hi Thank you so much for your replies. I have just check and it was 69 not 55 Erskine Street and yes my Dad is Steve Bullock and grandparents George and Charlotte (Lottie). I remember the house when I was very young but have no photos. I remember the train tracks and used to love the River Rea. I vividly remember the day I threw my grandma’s gong into it thinking it would float. Needless to say I got a telling off.
I will read this thread with interest.

Hi Edmund, I used to play by the River Rea when we used to visit my grandparents in the early 1960’s but my Dad but my Dad grew up there and so would have been there through the 40s and 50s.

Whitty it’s lovely to hear that your sister was friends with my Aunty Barbara. My Aunty Joan also grew up there, she was the oldest of the tree children.
