Hi Maypolemadman

You are getting yourself mixed up, Boots was on the Colmore Row side of Bull St and FHW was on the Steelhouse Lane Side.

Here is an extract from Kelly's directory showing what I mean, and also a photo of Boots in its prime.

Went into The Lamp Tavern a long number of years ago.If I remember right there was a longish passage with several small "snugs"leading off to the left.Got the impression that each "snug"had its regular clientele and some wasn't too keen on strangers.
Is the pub still there by any chance or is it another one thats gone from the "Town"

Hi Maypolemadman

I found a better photo showing FHW & Boots on opposite sides of the end of Bull St.

Hi Forth

Which Lamp Tavern are you referring to. By the way are you living up by the Forth Bridge seeing as you use it for an avatar. I rode over that bridge a few times in the old steam trains when I was a nipper. We always threw small change out of the window into the water below.

Hi Phil
Was referring to pub next to Greys,it had a small narrow front and I remember it as The Lamp (please correct me if I'm wrong).Went in the place once and it seemed a bit of a "dive"so was never in there again.
Live about ten miles from Forth Bridge on the north (Fife) side. You could well have crossed it more times than me.Must be forty years since I used it, although I use the road bridge quite often.

Hi Forth

You were right about the name of the pub it was called The Lamp and it was next to Greys. I don't think it there any longer. I have to say I don't remember it, so it might have been gone quite a while.

I found this rather poor photo of it on the edge of another photo & I have cropped and enlarged it. I will add it to my collection.

Hi Phil
Thanks for pic.of The Lamp.Even after so many years your pics.make the "Brum"as I knew it, seem still very familiar.Like being in a time warp for forty odd years.
