That John, if you take him anywhere twice, it's to apologise for the first time. ;D

Thanks Phil, The Tivoli brings back some memories. Replaced in the sixties by The swan shopping Centre. That now has just been demolished, it is at present a mountain of crushed concrete.   SB

If you lived in Nechells in the 50's and early 60's these are the 3 cinemas that you would have used.

The Gaiety on Coleshill St near to Dale End on the edge of town. The slightly posher one of the three and therefore the most expensive so you only went there if it was a good film or you were trying to impress the latest girlfriend.

The Rock on Alum Rock Rd. At one time a good cinema but by the 50's & 60's was on the downward trend. It was still good enough to take a girlfriend to, and perhaps even meet a new one.

The last one is the Ashted, the local flea pit; this is the one that your parents sent you to so they could get a few hours peace (I wonder what for). This was the one where you watched all those shorts on a Saturday Afternoon. Two and a half hours of entertainment all for 4d.

Regal Handsworth on Saturday morning (ABC Minors) and Palladium Hockley in the afternoon. Flash Gordon - what a star.

Welcome to the forum Carolina.  We're a pretty laid back, relaxed bunch of raving nutters who are brummies in fact ,or adopted brummies at heart.  There're lots of threads, put your tanners worth in, and start new ones whenever you feel like you have a new idea.  In short, just get stuck in and enjoy the forum.   O0

Some members live elsewhere in UK, and others overseas - where do you live these days?
