Yes one of us would have been,just go back to your classes I was in 1.2a 2.2a 3.2a 4.2a,then dropped down to 4.2b because of absenteism,I never went back after that,I just wanted to do other things like working,at that time I was learning to be a croupier by an expert dealer from the Rainbow Casino I was offered a job there as an apprentice dealer but turned it down because of the travelling from my house to Hagley Rd,it just seamed to far to go,at 15 I was hanging around with my mates mainly in Wenman St and chasing the local girls,Bernie Joan and Betty were always round our house or hanging around Edward Rd,Mary St,Barry hung around with Colin littlehales and Stanley Cole,He was mad on Bernie and had a tattoo of her name on his chest he will kill me if he knew I had posted this,we both hung around a little pub in Mary St called the Bath Tavern with our mates I was not adrinker really,Barry and Stanley Colin,used to have there regular 2 pints nearly every other night,(trying to be grown up lol)
Judith Westwood was in my year Colin Addis, Stanley Jagger,Irene Williams,most of them I just forgot about until now,being on this site has freshened up my memory,in time more names will come flooding back,it's sad I don't remember you  but I am sure I will eventually ,M

I remember the names you mention, I was in 1,1 up to 4.1, I started Rea St with Irene Williams too, I think there were such a lot of us there, in the same year its difficult to remember everyone, 4 classes in each year with about 35 kids in each class, your not going to remember everybody, I chat to Irene and she mentions names I don't remember, its nice to catch up and chat to people, you thought you would never hear from or about again, good invention this interweb, lol

Hi Phil,
Yes it was Rodney,my word you have a good memory,There were three of them but Rodney had patience and taught me a lot, from three card brag to draw or stud poker,especially the hand tricks,Palming(if you know what that means)he made such an impression on me.
 Yes Colin is the brother of Ronnie he also had a half brother Dougie, he was going out with a girl called Christine Green if my memory serves me right,you must have known the Greens, the dad was Sid what a character,

Would Colin Littlehales have lived in Hamden St? if so he must have been the younger brother of another mate of mine Ronnie Littlehales. Would the croupier who was teaching you have been Rodney who worked at the Medina weekends.

Oh I agree, but you never know who may be watching and may join the site,perhaps of the unhappiness I had during the last year at Hope St peoples names are vague and are distant memories,It's ironic that as soon as I left school my real education started,M

Was the little Cockney "Joe" still in partnership with Brian then and who was running the coffee house then. As I say I moved on in 65 and I didn't see Brian again until 68 when I did some business with him just before he left for Australia to be with his lads.

Sorry I meant to say that the only Sid Green I knew was a partner in W.Groom transport. I suppose you would remember that company. Half the cowboys in Balsall heath worked for them. I remember that Ronnie used to be a long distance lorry driver. I haven't a clue what happened to him, he just dropped out of sight.

Hello Phil,
Don't know about W.Groom,I think he worked on the buses,quite a lot of the old proper Balsall Heath people have faded away along the years,some I don't really want to remember,There used to a lot of characters in the Triangle of Wenman St, Vincent St,Hamden St,Pearson St was another place where a few of my old closest friends lived Noel Powell,Susan Higgins,Pat Burke,Michael Mcguiness,Timothy O'sullivan,the Singh Family,and lots more,I just wonder what happened to them?,M
