HI TRAMP  ive not done too bad from 1969 to 1989 I only lived 10 minutes walk away from where I worked  so Iv'e not done too bad, but do you know i was late a few times then.  Living so far away iIam rarely late for work.

Can I recommend to ANYONE     CAFE NEO  The Best breakfast in town. A great feed cooked fresh, The plate is hot so the breakfast stays hot.  £4.50 for a big breakfast and a mug of Tea or Coffee.  It' s on the end of the Rag Market in Edgbaston Street.   Because it's so busy, loads of staff so there is very little waiting.      ***** Five stars from Sheldonboy

Just reading about your epic journey each day. I know I know nothing about bus services but surely there has to be a better route than that. You are doing about 10 miles to cover about 3 as the crow flies.

Where in Tyseley is your destination, I didn't know there was any industry left down there or do you work for SITA?

sheldonboy,

It could be time to ''get on yer bike'', doesn't a 3 mile morning cycle sound good as you've no real hills around O0

Hi Phil
It's not really an epic journey, I just catch one bus to the Bull ring and one bus to Tyseley. I am in no rush in the morning, I read my paper or talk to someone or just enjoy the ride.
The alternative is the 17 bus to the Yew Tree, then the 11 or 41 to Acocks Green, and then the 37 from Acocks Green to Tyseley.
Bearing in mind I could be waiting up to 15 minutes for each bus. So the trip I make yes is far longer but is quicker and believe me involves far less stress. Also on market days I pick up a pile of fruit as well.  On the odd occasion I visit the best cafe in Brum.       There is quite a lot of work in our area these days Phil but not the heavy industry as you know it. The largest company by far is a firm called SCH Specialist Computer Holdings, they are a massive privately owned outfit wh deal with the likes of the NHS and Royal Mail Etc. See their website.
As for tramp yes I have a bike and could ride it to work but there is no way on this planet I could manage to ride it home again after my day. I wouldn't ride a bike on the road in Brum at that time of day anyway our roads are far too dangerous. SB

sheldonboy,

It was the thought of trying to get back home on a bike after a long day in rotten traffic that prompted me to only suggest that you go by bike! ;D

I can see with the markets and cafe you get a couple of useful, enjoyable and time and money-saving benefits thrown in - those far outweigh the uncertainty of the 3 bus trip - just the thought of that makes me cringe. ''U dun rite my son, 'ave a day orf nex' Sunday''  O0

I Know SCH they used to be next door to us on the Warwick Rd in a building that used to be part of the Serck. That was when we had a unit on The Greet Trading Estate. Which at one time used to be the Brook Tool (my first job after leaving school) Since that time they now have another building where our unit used to be.

Hi Phil      SCH (or SCC) have sites all around that area, Seeleys rd has the NDC (National distribution centre) and opposite is the european headquarters St James House. It has outlets all over Europe.

Hey Phil,

So you worked down there...''The Serck'' and Brooke Tool along with Tyseley railway shed are my abiding memories of that area - do you know if any of the works buildings are still standing?

I was christened in Greet, so they told me - can't remember much except it was raining in church.

If you mean the railway engineers dept at Tyseley then yes they are still there, I think it is all part of Tyseley Steam Train Museum now,

As for the Brook Tool and the Serck its all gone now and the toffee factory, with all those lovely young girls that worked there.
