Judging by the directories of the period it was a mixed street with (in 1855) one named
pub , The Cross Pistols, another beer retailer, general shops, a "maker of papier mache goods and japanners", a naval brassfounder, two bakers, a wood turner, coal dealer, several gun workers and the Slaney Street Ragged School for boys & girls. by 1868 it is similar . but has had added a button maker and a "Glasgow dining Hall" , whatever that may be.
