HI ROY
THE KIDS EXPECT IT FROM THEIR PARENTS NOW. SOME OF THE KIDS COULD HAVE GIFTS COMING OUT OF THEIR EARS & THEY STILL WOULD'NT BE HAPPY. BUT THINKING ABOUT IT WE'RE AS MUCH TO BLAME WITH OUR KIDS BECAUSE WE TRIED TO GIVE THEM WHAT WE NEVER HAD. BUT WE'VE GONE TO MUCH THE OTHER WAY NOW & GET LITTLE THANKS. ANDY CAPP

I always thought S & U were in Edgbaston St Close to the junction of Pershore St. My grandmother bought a lot of our clothes and household items when we were growing up from there

I think it was a shilling in the pound per week. Of course everything was 50% dearer than if you paid cash somewhere. There were a lot of people making money out of those who could hardly afford to live in those days. So not much change then.

i was looking in one of them shops the other day and on the door it said that they will give you a loan on your car you keep your car how thats works im not sure but have you noticed that how thing go round the pawn shops went out a long time ago but like you say they are on the way back  folk seem to be in the need for quick cash may be to pay bills who knows

but what we could not afford we went with out so it makes you wonder how things will turn out in a few years time when the kids of today will be the workers of the future and they want things now not save up like we did

Morning,
Another one similar to S & U was the Provident, same thing shilling in the pound weekly re-payment.

We must have been a real poverty struck family because all those names were known and used by both sets of grandparents. Provident. Blundells, S&U and there was another one in Blake Lane by the Custard House who's name escapes me.

I have seen my one grandmother empty her purse when the collectors for these people came calling. You couldn't live with them and you couldn't live without them.

This is why I always pay cash for everything. There have been times that I have had bank loans but they have always been repaid in less time than we were allowed. I'm afraid rather than use credit facilities in the past we have gone without which has annoyed my wife at times.
