Mike,  I cannot contact my 'old friends' as I changed my 'radiorails' e-mail and the e-mail system does not work enabling a reactivation of account.
At least I have noted three or four folks here than I know from elsewhere.
best wishes,  Alan

Does anybody know where i can find Electoral Registers for the West Midlands in the 1960's and 1970's as sites such as Ancestry only have until 1955?

Hi

Thanks everyone for all the links that you gave me - they really helped me progress with my ancestry.  O0 O0

Quick question - can you enquire about a burial or cremation at a cemetery via e-mail?

Thanks

Thomas

I am looking for information on my great grandfather, Joseph William Oliver (1833-1907) He was a professor of botany at the Municipal Technical School. Im not positive biput I think it was renamed Aston University.  Also interested in any information about his daughter Annie 1857-1939 married William Henry Crosbee they had several children living in Lordswood road Harborne.  My sister and I live in Canada but will be in Birmingham Sept. 20-27.  Any information ie school year books cemeteries both conformist and nonconformist, would be greatly appreciated, Thank you

Hi Carrie

Welcome to our forum, I'm afraid that I can give you very little information concerning your Great Grandfather, but I'm sure we have other posters on here who may be able to help you out. I can tell you that you are correct about Birmingham Minicipal Technical School being moved to Gosta Green in the early 50's and later being named as Aston University. It has grown somewhat since then and has now taken over most of the area  once known as Gosta Green.

Here are a couple of images of the Technical School when based in Suffolk Street and a couple of early images of Lordswood Road, Harborne.  Because of the upload limitations on the site they are very small and low resolution, but if you want better copies, after you have made five posts to the forum the private message facility will become available to you. When this happens if you want better copies send me an email address via the PM system and I will oblige.

This site may make interesting reading for you.
