I'm sure I read on a message thread somewhere that the boundaries of three local districts meet up in Prince of Wales Lane (or possibly Yardley Wood Road) - and that you could effectively step into three different districts just by taking a couple of paces? If that is the case, what would they be - Warstock, Kings Heath and Billesley…?

How about, Warstock, Highters Heath & Solihull Lodge?

OK Phil - and bearing in mind I'm not a Brummie - is that what they would have been called in the late 1930's?

Sorry I can't vouch for the 30's, but I took this section of map from an early 1940's map, take a look and see what you think.

Thanks Phil, 1940 is perfect, time-wise.
If we take the junction where Prince of Wales Lane, Greenford Road and Yardley Wood Road all meet, I would say the three districts are Warstock, Highter's Heath and Yardley Wood. Solihull Lodge being the bottom end of POW Lane and finishing opposite the end of Gorleston Road?

Hi Mark,
Sorry, I have never lived in the Birmingham area; my interest in Prince of Wales Lane and Yardley Wood Road are purely for research purposes - a biography on a man from the area.

I don't know how I missed this map when it was posted.
I grew up in Sladepool Farm Rd., in the 40s and 50s, ( frustratingly, only the beginning of it is showing). It's interesting to look at the area before the prefabs were built. Another thing that caught my eye is that Daisy Farm park is named "estate" on the map, something I never heard of before.
Would it be possible to see a larger portion of the map ?
Baz.

The problem with this site with maps that the upload limit is so small that the larger the map the more unreadable it becomes. This copy is just readable with effort, if you would like to message me with an email address I will send you a higher resolution copy.
