Coastal Do you have a photo of the building that was next to the Crown public house Hill St?
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Hasn't that been a car park for at least 50 years? But perhaps I haven't got the right location.

Joe

For many years before the war it was Henry Garner Motor Car Agents, after being bombed out during the war it remained as a car park for a while. Then in the 60's Alex's pie stand moved over from the other side of Hinkley Street I don't know when he moved on but he was still there when I stopped using the Crown in 1968.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.

So, what's the story townie, were you thinking of a particular building?

Anyone remember the building on the opposite corner to Snow Hill station. It was called I believe General Fire and Life assurance company.

The story Joewoen is that I love old buildings of Birmingham, and always wondered what was next to the Crown as there must have been something there.

You are right townie, Birmingham has a lot of great old buildings. I wonder if someone has a photo of Henry Garner Motor Cars that Phil mentioned. Well done Phil, by the way for coming up with that obscure piece of information. Looking at Henry Garner through a search engine, he was an interesting chap. But seems he went broke around 1938.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, it had a large clock on the front of the building.

There was a Henry Garner Motor Dealers on Alcester Road in 'Moseley Village' I think that I am right in saying that it was one the first Datsun Dealerships. I had a couple of Datsun Bluebirds from them this would be in 70s and 80s
