You have said it!!! Despite my dislike of school back then but I would live those years over again in  a heartbeat. We were a generation - despite growing up in the 60s - that was taught to respect people, especially our elders and as you say it didn't do us any harm - au contraire
Those days are gone forever, I'm afraid.
The discipline instilled in us, albeit by fear mostly, gave me a basis of behaviour towards others and a respect for authority.
Although, in recent times, my respect for the latter has diminished somewhat!

I started school at Cofton Primary and finished school at Turves Green Secondary Modern school.
    so did I  ,cofton to KNGS.

Highters Heath infants and juniors, then onto Yardley Wood SMBS, I left in 1958....

Loved my time at Lea Village Sec Mod. Teachers great. Woodwork, Metal work, Maths, English, Gymnastics, Sports, Pig Club, Gardening we had it all

I went to Whittington oval school in the 80s I lived on lea hall road I would love to see some pictures if anybody has any

Montgomery Street Junior and Infants and on to Yardley Grammar School. I still think there's a place for grammar schools but the qualification criterion in the 1950s was strict and uncompromising.


Only 6% achieved entry and some smart and able youngsters missed out.
