Hi Lizzy,
It's good to see that you remember Cromwell Passage.
I was born at number 10 in Feb 1944.It was my Grans house and sadly she died when I was 6 months old.
The family moved to 173 Angelina St That was the top next to the bomb site cnr Upper Highgate St
My mother and father's was a wartime marriage that did not work out and they split in 1948 myself and sister  lived with my father.
Henson's had both the grocer and greengrocer shops as I remember they were next door to each other.
I do remember the Geese in Cromwell passage but not in any detail. My family surname is Ledbrooke and my mothers Shaler.Lizzy do you know the name??
Great to see this site and how it brings back the memories.Have a nice day all

Hi Johnl,
My mistake :-[ The name should have read Pepperel not Pepplin and yes mom said they did own the newsagent. She remembers the daughter was named Cathy who later ran her own shop near St Martins flats and a son named Eric.

Hi there every one, at the bottom of Shereborne Rd and Longmore st, on the corner was a free house ( pub) if I remember right it was run by the family Hopes, I beleve the son John Hope later had the out door, in Upper Highgate and conybere St, also does any one know of the Souths family at the top of conybere St, one of the girls was Irene,  a little futher up was the Goods family daughter called Astrid, we all used to go to Hope St school, in the 1950-55 time. I remember I got on well with both of them, now I wonder what happened to them,
any feed back would nice......................John 2000 8)

Andy, I remember Shufflebottoms the motor cycle shop, when I was 17 I used to take my girl friend to the shop and stand outside and show her the "bike "I'm going to buy, it was a Francis Barnett 125cc with a cowling over the back end, ( like the Triumph 21 ) that was a dream I had, the other was to get into the pants of my girl friend, but in the end, both where out of reach.( happy days )................John 2000 8)

Hi John & Andy Capp, do you remember this little girl? When I was young she seems to have been in most peoples bay-window, alongside the aspidistra plant. I picked this one up in a Belgian antique shop, some 30 years ago now.

I know it's not a photo of Balsall Heath but there were pleanty of these to be seen in the area after the war.

Graham.
