Fond memories of the past 4. - Le Metro c1968. Ray (not his real name) and me first met when we became GKN Apprentices, and together we frequented many Birmingham Clubs in the mid to late 60's. He was a good looking guy, about 6ft tall, dark, looked slightly Italian and had a way with the ladies. We were at Le Metrp one night when he confided, Peg I fancy the socks of that Donna. Donna was one of two go-go dancers on stage. He said he wanted to try and talk to her and the only way he could see of doing that was by going on stage and dancing with her, he planned to do this but could only see it working if someone else danced with the other go-go dancer.
I'll never know to this day how he managed to talk me into it.
When he first asked me I said The only way you'll get me on that stage is unconscious on a stretcher.
Anyway we did go on stage and at the end of the dance session I just thought he would confess to being really disappointed at getting nowhere - DO YOU WHAT? -That couldn't be further from the truth, he announced he' got a date!
I was absolutley speechless.
Their relationship blossomed and I think they might have got engaged; I lost touch with him when he got sacked for bad time keeping, I don't think he was too disappointed - he may even have gone into club management.
Peg.
