Did you have your hair cut here?

Many times. I worked on one of the stalls in the outdoor market in the 70s and often had my hair cut in there. Only used female stylists if I remember rightly Never paid the full price, always got a "staff discount" Also used to use the Continental Hairdressers in the indoor market (Was it called Tonis?)

Hi jamesm was that Italian hair dressers by the bus station in the market if so I also used that, always felt special when you come out.

Yes, that's the one. Not only could you read the newspaper whilst you  were waiting, as in most hairdressers, but there was always a selection of "men's magazines" to peruse as well   Used to have the works then, shampoo, blow wave etc. nowadays it's just a quick No 2 all over.

jamesm You say you worked in the market in the 70s, I also worked on the market in the early 70s selling shirts. The chap I worked for was named John Glover I remember his name as he was a puff and there weren't many around then, well there was but I think they kept it quite. Also had a mate on the market named Dobin obviously not his real name but that is what he was known as. Don't know if you knew any of these? also a chap named Eric who sold the bone china. Happy days.

Hi Townie, I'm sorry but those names don't ring a bell but then it was a long time ago. Thinking back it was the late 60s when I was there. I started working for a friend's dad just on a Saturday from about 1964 till about 66. Whilst I was waiting for my exam results after I had left school he gave me a full time job. This was only meant to be a temporary arrangement but somehow it turned into about another 3 years. His name was Sid Hart and he sold fruit. He had two sons who worked the market, Sid jnr and Paul. I knew Paul from junior school and that's how I got to work for his Dad. Truly were Happy Days.

Not really they are pretty well multi coloured now, though there are still some around with the old livery. Take a look at this site there are quite a few images of West Midlands buses on it.
