1962 and two Woolworth buildings next to each other. The Old and the new, the old one half gone and the rest of it nearing the end of it's days. The new one nearly built and waiting to make a start. I wonder how they managed to talk the developers into letting remain open throughout the whole Bull Ring renovation process.

I suppose it's a similar situation to the current Paradise Circus works & the Copthorne Hotel.  They'll move into the new location when built & then the existing building demolished.  It must be getting in the way whilst is still trading.

An image from the 1950's looking up Spiceal Street which just has to be early in the morning or on a Sunday.

An early photo of The Nelson Statue in the Bull Ring on Trafalgar Day an event that is still celebrated today. The statue was the first one of Lord Nelson in the UK being unveiled on October 25th 1809. The statue was also the first in Birmingham to be paid for by public donation at a cost of £2,500 and was sculpted by Richard Westmacott.

I suppose now it's in more or less the old location, but with completely different buildings around it!

The new market hall not long after it opened, it all looks spic and span and very hygienic, but to me it doesn't have the appeal of the old market hall.

Did not know the original market, but always found the 1960s one much better than the present one

Mike to tell the truth I have never been in the latest one, as I have never had the need to. I suppose I should go even if it's only to have a look. That's the trouble today I only visit places if I have a reason.

Numbers One, two, three & four The Bull Ring from the corner of Park Road in 1955. Soon to disappear under a multi storey car park and St Martins House. Which would both disappear some 40 odd years later under Selfridges.
