Hoves and Burlet Ltd, maker of lantern
« on: February 13, 2007, 07:35:52 PM »
Hello,
I research of the news on a business that was installed to Birmingham:  HOVES AND BURLEY LTD, last address : 24-30 Bishop Street – Birmingham - UK, and that was makers of lamps and of blow lamps.
This brand worked for the government UK during the Great War (1914/1918)
I have a vintage circular oil lantern of this brand (Hight 11.81 inches,  diameter 6.69 inches stamped model 69 or 96 and marqued 1916)
I would wish to arrive to know his usage or has to rediscover his exact reference in a manufacturer’s catalog
A friend has me says that this lamp was used in the old prison of Birmingham?
Also the burner is absent. I think that the oil tank is square and measures 3.82 inches
Do you know a shop in order to rediscover/to obtain an old/ second hand hand complet burner on the same mark ?
Photograph of this lantern at you disposal if a reader furnish me his email adress
More details welcome
.
Be indulgent for my bad english

The company that made this is called Howes and Burley and the better description is probable oil lamp. You will find plenty of references on Google.
