As we are at the third round stage of the F.A. Cup with a visit to Bristol tomorrow it is interesting to find around
a hundred years ago on 13011912 our lads played Walsall in the first round and won 6 nil. Interestingly the Villa
lifted the Birmingham Senior Cup defeating Willenhall Pickwick F.C. no connection to Willenhall Town nowadays
by 2 goals to one in 1912. George B Ramsay a famous loyal Villa player and official at all levels in the club was
given the gate money as a testimonial when Sunderland visited Villa Park on 07101911 Eventually he served
the club as secretary for 42 years G.B.R. will never be forgotten

Any Villa supporter would be interested in a piece of rare news about the club. What was the first Continental
Tour the club embarked upon? The story goes that as Britain edged towards a National strike in 1926. Hundreds
of people thronged New Street station to see them off- destination -Sweden. A large crowd also gathered at Tilbury docks as the steamer 'Patricia' left the docks. The first match was played against Orgryte Idrott Sallskap
the oldest club in the country. A talented side: Jackson; Bowen,Mort; Johnstone, Talbot, Muldoon; Stephenson,
Kirton, Capewell, Walker and Dorrell; Corbett an International, was reserve and Armfield ran the line! The team
did not fare too well losing 2-5. maybe their minds were on dire events back home.

Hi all, after a long absence on this thread. What was happening at the top level 100 years ago in the
transfer market? . Not a lot but a player at the club named Kingaby sued Aston Villa for having a transfer fee placed upon him- alleging it was damaging and loss of wages. It was a test case by the
Player's Union and the League's Management committee who were totally supportive of Aston Villa's
action. There was no case to answer. It means there has been some movement  since that event !

Right P, I have no special affection to the Manager but I do like to see him trying to blood a lot of
young talent which may turn up a star of the future without spending a fortune. Pit we did not
engage Alan Pardew!
