I think it's perhaps time that I gave my theory on this little problem. I think it's either the junction of Newhall Street Marked "A" on the map or "B" at the junction of Church Street on the map both these roads have a junction with Colmore Row. If look or the map you will see that both of these roads bear the letters L.B (Letter Box) near the junction with Colmore Row next to the letters A & B that I added.

As both these roads have a downhill outlook and both letter box's are on the right of the road as on the photo, coupled with the fact that both roads are to the right of Victoria Square and the arrow on top of the box points to the left, I think my chances of being right are pretty good. Of I had to pick my favourite one out of the two I would plump foe Church Street.

I'm not saying that it is Church Street,  only that Church Street ticks the most boxes for me, the building you indicate would be on the corner of Barwick Street the junction itself being hidden by the parked lorry. I agree that it does not match up with the buildings we see now, but the photo is nearly 80 years old,  are the buildings that are there now the ones that were there when the photo was taken in 1938?

The rest of the picture matches up, even to the doorway across the road from the letter box, though as I said earlier it could just as easily be Newhall Street.(see attached photo)

Phil, I think your reasoning is sound. I, like Astoness, took the light coloured building in the background to be the Town Hall.

Lyn,

Yes the doorway Google photograph is on Church Street, but because there is on-going work taking place on the building you have to stand more or less in Barwick Street to see it as they are different images from there.

The trouble with this game now is that you have to find an image that is not on Google image finder and believe me that is no easy task now because once it goes on the net Google have it. You put this image in the finder now and you won't find it, but after this has been posted here it will be there next week.

So on with the game, I'll give you a clue straight away, it's not a farm.

Phil I'm guessing it's a forge or a wheelwright's yard. Could it be towards Yardley area?

I'll try Jiggins Lane, Bartley Green,
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Yes it's a Wheelwrights, and it is in the Yardley (ish) area, and there is a significance to the location that is still evident today.
